The Old Cataract and the Old Winter Palace

Winter Palace Hotel, Luxor

Old Cataract Hotel, Aswan
Agatha Christie wrote 'Death on the Nile' at the Old Cataract Hotel, in Aswan, Egypt.
The Old Cataract was built in 1899 and has had Winston Churchill, the Agha Khan, King Farouk, and Lady Diana as guests.
"I loved this property - it was like stepping into the 1930's, with the doorman dressed in their finest, sweeping velvet curtains everywhere, gleaming marble floors, and the sounds from the Nile drifting through open doors." - “felt like I was in an Agatha Christie Movie”

People who have stayed at the Old Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor include: King Farouk, the Agha Khan, Empress Eugenie of France, the Tsar and Tsarina of Russia, King Juan Carlos of Spain, Prince Charles, Sir Winston Churchill, Field Marshal Montgomery, President Giscard d'Estang, President Gamal Abd el Nasser, President Anwar El Sadat, President Hosny Moubarak, Jimmy Carter, Henry Kissinger, Margaret Thatcher, Helmut Kohl and Agatha Christie.

“The New Winter Palace Hotel not 4 or 5 star”

"Luxor... you will find people with hearts of gold, people struggling to make a wage for thier families people that do not have the same opportunities like ourselves, but people who will go out of thier way to assist... Along the bustling water front there are numerous cafes and shops... mix with the locals... Lets now talk about the jewel in the Nile, the Jolie Ville Hotel on Cropcodile Island, where you will find world class facilities in the tranquility and peace of its well tended tropical gardens." - “Paradise Found”
